Our Quick Devotion this morning comes from Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
5 “Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.”
Let’s be clear about one thing from the start meekness is not certainly not weakness. Meekness is strength and power under control or it might be said meekness is gentleness backed by great courage and strength.
Pride has been redefined in American culture as a virtue. The strong, the beautiful, the powerful, the intelligent, and the privileged take every opportunity to boast in themselves and advance themselves often as the expense of others. Sadly probably the least admired character quality in America is meekness. And yet the greatest Person who ever lived was a meek and humble man — “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
Growing up my mother used to constantly quote Proverbs 25:28 to us seven boys. “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city” In contrast, the individual who is not gentle is described in Proverbs 25:28, ”Whoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.”
