Our Quick Devotion this morning comes from Matthew 5:9 NIV
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.”
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
The Greek word translated “peacemaker” is used in only one other place in the New Testament. Colossians 1:20 says, “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” Colossians 1:19-20 NKJV
Our father is a peace-loving and peacemaking God. The whole history of redemption, climaxing in the death and resurrection of Jesus, is centered around God’s plan to bring about just and lasting peace between a rebellious wayward creation and himself, and then between man and his fellow man. How awesome that we are not only restored to a peaceful relationship with our father, but in addition He offers for us to become his ambassadors and offer an ultimate and lasting peace to the world.
